Vedic Astrology (called Jyotish or "The Science of Light") comes to us from India and goes back over 5,000 years coming from the Vedas, which are ancient scriptures that were brought to us by enlightened sages that come from a yogic perception of reality. Ayurveda and Yoga also come from the Vedas. Jyotish assumes the law of karma, which is the principle of cause and effect, and can give a better view of a person's karmic tendencies while defining a person's psychological nature , putting focus and understanding on when certain events are likely to take place. In terms of analyzing relationship compatibility and auspicious timing of events, Vishaka offers some of the most sophisticated yet ancient tools of predictions and analysis, putting emphasis on the spiritual development of the individual.

"How is Vedic different than Western astrology?" you might ask….Vedic Astrology is different from western astrology in many ways. The most obvious is that the chart is a square or rectangle and not a circle (see the example to the left). The most significant difference is that Jyotish is a Siderial astrology, meaning that it is based on the fixed stars and constellations, not the seasons (such as Western Astrology). This is significant because over the last 2,000 years, the "precession of the equinoxes" have caused the stars/zodiac to shift nearly 24 degrees. This explains why a person may be told they are a Scorpio sun sign in Western astrology and a Libra in Vedic. What is reflected in the Vedic Chart is actually the true placement of the planets with relation to the signs.
Jyotish has many extra tools for chart interpretation, beginning with the basic natal chart and planetary transits, as well as 60 divisional or harmonic charts, annual charts and planetary periods (dashes). Another significant thing will only hear in Jyotish are the orbital nodes of the moon, Rahu and Ketu, which are known as "shadow planets." The Lunar nodes indicate where/when eclipses happen. |
